For this week’s Missouri Mondays we again stress the importance of registering to vote by July 11, protecting Missouri’s unions and the wages and benefits for all Missouri workers by volunteering and voting NO! On Prop A! on August 7, and finding a campaign to help elect those who will fight for hard-working Missourians!
Here’s the bottom line: We must help to elect candidates who will protect Missouri workers rather than cave to special interests. Republicans in Missouri’s legislature have passed laws that target Missouri workers in an attempt to lower wages in favor of corporations. The so-called Right to Work law passed last session extends the ban on fair share fees to ALL unions, not just the public sector. This means employees who benefit from union negotiations do not have to pay their fair share fees. The purpose behind this law is to encourage as many workers as possible to abandon unions, weakening the union’s ability to demand a fair wage, benefits, and workplace protections for all.
Republicans and their wealthy donors have also passed other anti-union laws, suppressing wages on public projects in Missouri by changing prevailing wage, and legislation that places unnecessary and burdensome regulations for member annual paycheck deductions.
So get registered to vote by July 11, help spread the word to Vote NO! on Prop A on August 7 to stop out-of-state billionaires from controlling the rights of our workers to a fair wage and benefits, and find a campaign to support today and help elect candidates who will fight to protect hard-working Missourians!
