02/24/20- It is time for Missouri to stop discrimination based on sexual orientation. Pass MONA now!
Thank you to everyone who joined Moms Demand Action-MO volunteers and supporters last Tuesday to attend the 2020 Missouri Advocacy Day in Jefferson City. Your presence, emails, and phone calls do make a difference!
Thank you also to Representative Greg Razer (pictured above) for his support of Moms Demand Action and his continued efforts to pass MONA (Missouri Non-Discrimination Act) legislation. For this week’s Missouri Mondays, we ask that you contact your legislators and ask that they support MONA. After 22 years, it is time for Missouri to stop discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity!
The Missouri Non-Discrimination Act or MONA would add sexual orientation and gender identity to protected categories of the Missouri Human Rights Act. Currently the law prohibits discrimination in housing, employment, and public accommodations based on race, sex, color, religion, ancestry, disability, age (in employment), familial status (in housing) and national origin--but does not protect lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender people.
The following bills have been introduced this session, but without your help, they will once again be ignored. Please call your Representative and Senator today! To find your legislators and their contact information go HERE.
Both House Bill 1527 (sponsor Rep. Greg Razer) and House Bill 1763 (sponsor Rep. Tom Hannegan) would prohibit discrimination based upon a person's sexual orientation or gender identity.
Senate Bill 948 (sponsor Sen. Brian Wiliams) would also prohibit such discrimination.
In addition to calling your legislators, please contact House Speaker Elijah Haahr and Senate President Pro Tem Dave Schatz and ask that MONA be brought to the floor this session.
Rep. Elijah Haahr
Sen. Dave Schatz
